King Hamad went to London this weekend where he asked for British help in reforming his security and policing sectors to keep up with reform in the wake of protests. David Cameron asked the King to continue with reform. Sheikh Ali Salman, the main opposition leader in Bahrain, said that he continues to believe the monarchy can institute reform, but wants to sit down for serious dialogue. The King has already allegedly implemented a human rights watchdog and has fired the former head of security.
These are serious moves, but do not address the Constitutional issues that the Shia protesters took to the streets to protest originally.
